We’ve partnered with chef and cookbook author Rie McClenny to bring you a Japanese Breakfast Bento for this back-to-school season. A traditional Japanese breakfast typically includes a variety of small, savory dishes that create a well-balanced and satisfying meal. Each recipe, selected by Rie from her cookbook with some special new additions, offers a complete experience to enjoy from home. Enjoy lemon miso salmon, colorful mixed rice with edamame, carrot and mushroom, wafu-style frittata, tangy pickled veggies, and miso soup. A Note from Chef Rie: I developed these recipes using the Magowa Yasashii concept, a Japanese acronym for seven key ingredients for balanced nutrition: legumes (ma), sesame seeds (go), seaweed (wa), vegetables (ya), fish (sa), mushrooms (shi), and potatoes (i). This meal covers all seven groups—just heat and eat!
